Must Have Travel Essentials

After numerous spontaneous vacation trips, I've learned to pretty much master how to pack. I'd had my fair share of "Crap! I forgot to pack (insert important travel item here)!" moments. Buying those small travel essentials at an airport or a nearby grocery store turns out to be more expensive. Take advantage of those carry on bags. Flights can be long. Be comfortable during your flight. Whether you are sleeping or reading, be prepared to have a safe and enjoyable flight with these must have travel essentials.

 Travel On Essentials Carry On

1 // iPad and Magazines: Keep yourself entertained during your flight by taking your iPad and a few of your favorite magazines with you. Watch some movies or read the latest celebrity gossip.

2 // J. Crew iPhone Back Up Battery: By far my favorite buy this summer. It is a lifesaver and it's perfect for traveling. Flights do not have outlets and airport charging stations are usually packed. Avoid dealing with your iPhone dying by carrying this cute iPhone backup battery with you everywhere.

3 // Make Up Pouch: Keep your must have make up items in a small pouch. Don't come off your flight looking like a zombie. Pack your foundation, favorite lipgloss, fresh gum, small mirror - whatever brightens up your beautiful face after a long flight. Don't forget a comb!

4 // Carry On Bag: Take a spacious yet stylish carry on bag with you that can pack all your carry on travel essentials, including a sweater or a scarf. You can find this pretty little thing at Amazon.

5 // Kate Spade Card Holder: Airports have gift shops and it's tempting to buy a snack or a gift. This Kate Spade card holder is perfect to hold all your cards and ID without having to carry a large, bulky wallet.

6 // Clear Eyes Eye Drops: I don't know about y'all, but a lot of times I fall asleep during my flight and wake up with dry eyes or red eyes. Keep a small, travel size eye drops bottle to clear your sleepy eyes.

7 // Passport Holder: Don't forget the most important travel item - your passport! My biggest fear is losing my passport and not being able to reach my destination. Having a cute passport holder will help you remember to carry it with you at all times.

8 // Headphones: We've all been on a flight with crying babies. Save yourself from the misery and buy a good pair of headphones that will successfully tune out the crying babies or the loud, obnoxious girl who likes to talk the entire flight.

9 // iPhone Case: Buy a cute iPhone case, just because. Travel in style.

10 // Mini Emergency Kit: You can find these pretty much anywhere. Mini Emergency Kits are a lifesaver when it comes to traveling. It is the must have travel essential. The J. Crew Mini Emergency Kit carries: hair spray, clear nail polish, nail polish remover, an emery board, lip balm, earring backs, clear elastics, a mending kit, double-sided emergency tape, stain remover, a deodorant towelette, pain reliever, a tampon, breath freshener, dental floss, a safety pin, and an adhesive bandage.

What are your must have carry one travel items? What can't you live without during your flight?

Brainstorming, Puppy Love and Family BBQs

Happy Monday! Last week I was unable to participate in The Nectar Collective’s Weekly Wishes because I was away on vacation, but this week I am back and ready to link up!

Let’s go back as far as 2 weeks and see how I did. My goal was to be free of worries and have a free state of mind, if that makes any sense. Thankfully this goal happened to fall during my family vacation, so it was fairly easy to just be carefree and not stress about anything. (I mean, I was running around Disneyland like a kid and shopping on Hollywood Blvd, swiping that debit card as if I had hundreds of dollars to spend or something.) But of course, I won’t always have a nice vacation. I did, however, find it helpful to have inspirational quotes at my work desk or my desktop background to get me through the week.

This week’s weekly wish. // Revisit thoughts on the path for this blog and do some blog cleaning. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the purpose of this blog and the direction in which I want to go with it. I write because I want to share my experiences and adventures. I write to connect with others. I write just to write. I want to dedicate this week to jotting down some ideas on a notepad (the old fashion way) and just think about where the blog is going. Maybe I’ll use this week to brainstorm some blog post ideas. I don’t know how. I am incapable of committing to a DIY. I seriously have no patience. I forget to post OOTD because, well, when I get home from work I don’t think of taking a photo of my outfit. I quickly jump into sweatpants and a t-shirt, put my hair up in a bun and turn on Netflix. I don’t have work out routines because I don’t work out. So, you see the dilemma I’m in.

I want to dedicate this week to cleaning it up a little, revamp the navigation tabs and content, re-do the sponsorship, brainstorm, etc. What do you guys think? I’m open to listen to any advice. As for social media, do I want to create individual accounts specifically for the blog? I am happy to have created the Twitter; it’s a great way to connect with other bloggers. I created a Facebook but I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it yet. I can barely keep up with my own life. I’m still thinking it through, though.

 photo weekly-wishes-button-yellow_zps1b1df431.jpg

I feel like my blog is lacking photos. I would post an OOTD today but I don’t match. Haha. So, when all else fails – post photos of your dog. If you follow me on Instagram (@msjasminegarcia) you’ll know that this weekend the boyfriend and I spoiled our dog, Winston, with some goodies: a new bed, a new t-shirt and a new toy. Spoiled little puppy brat!

That’s my Weekend Shenanigans. My weekend literally revolved around Winston (we missed him a lot while away on vacation) and it involved a surprise visit from my aunt and uncle. Saturday night we enjoyed a nice little BBQ outside. I introduced my aunt to Budlight Lime-A-Ritas. She’s a trooper! She had two of those little suckers. She’s always asking me to have something new for her to try as far as drinks. I’m ready for her next visit. Hmm, what’s next?

It's Friday, Friday, Friday.

Cheers y'all! It's the weekend. I plan on sleeping, spending some quality time with my little fur ball Winston and finish unpacking from my California trip. (Maybe this can be my chance to take a couple of photos of the small goodies I bought during my trip to show you guys!) It’s like my suitcase just threw up all over my bedroom floor.

It’s pretty insane. I’ll have to show a before and after photo, IF I have a successful weekend of unpacking. Believe it or not, I have another trip coming up in two weeks. I know! I’m one crazy traveler. So, I should probably just not…unpack? Yeah, I’ll just leave the suitcase out.

How do I do it while working full time? Honestly, I don’t know. But this year I haven’t taken a spontaneous vacation trip with my super awesome spontaneous vacation crew, Candace and Michelle. Where are we going? Vegas. Of course. No surprise there. Call me crazy but whatever (I was just there like not even two months ago. Read about that trip here.) We’re only young once and if I’m a broke post grad and on a budget, at least I’m making memories, right? You only live once. Let’s do this! (I will probably regret these back to back trips come the first of the month.)

I’ll make myself feel better about going on so many trips by writing some Friday Letters.

Dear bank account,
I am sorry I am draining the money life out of you. I swear it’s all for a good cause, as in – new clothes for my small closet and great memories (follow me on Instagram to follow my adventures!) I promise after this trip, we’ll be back on track.

Dear California,
I miss your cool weather. I am not digging the 100 degree Texas heat. I am tired of roasting in my car and walking two blocks to my car under the burning sun after work.

Dear Spontaneous Vacation Crew,
Are you ready? We are back at it again and soon we will be reunited. Let’s start brainstorming some songs and pick one that will define our trip. Yes? Thank you for going above and beyond to make sure I didn’t miss out on this trip. I mean, I have the most amazing friends ever. They don’t take no for an answer when it comes to a possible reunion for the spontaneous vacation crew.

Dear pool,
We will meet again this weekend with the latest Cosmo and Elle D├ęcor magazine at my side and a Strawberry Bud light Lime-A-Rita. Summer is coming to end, but not in Texas. So, I’ll have plenty of more “sit by the pool” time.

Dear Passionfruit Ads,
I promise I will dedicate this weekend to check out your awesome new features and put a ring on it! I need to get up to speed on these new changes so I don’t miss out on the great advertising opportunities.

Dear blank canvas,
I will get to you, my pretty. (And your little dog, too!) No, but seriously. That canvas needs to get painting like last year. Weekly Wishes repeat? Yes.

Time to get this weekend started and what better way to do it than with #backthatazzup Friday with Whitney from I Wore Yoga Pants to Work?

Selena Gomez turned 21 last week and went out with a bang. I mean I’m talking new music video, Taco Bell tacos cake, partying and all that good stuff.  Good for her! And I am loving her new song. I wish it was my birthday so I could jam to this song on my way to club or something!

Hope everybody has a good weekend!

Hollywood and Disneyland, the Happiest Place On Earth

Back to reality. Whomp, whomp.

Our family (plus the boyfriend) vacation trip to Los Angeles, California was absolutely amazing. The weather was beautiful. I very much enjoyed the cool weather. It was a nice little break from the Texas heat. I mean, I wore jeans for the first time in two months! That says a lot. We did as much as we possibly could in a span of four short (and fast) days.

Day 1 // We flew in early afternoon and quickly rushed over to Warner Brothers Studio for our tour, barely making it on time. We didn’t even get to go check in our hotel to drop off our bags or even pick up something to eat. Clearly we didn’t plan this accordingly because halfway through our tour we were practically fainting because we were so hungry. The weather was great for the tour. Pretty Little Liars was on set filming, so I was beyond excited to see that. After the tour we rushed over to the nearest pizza parlor, checked in to our hotel and then enjoyed the remainder of the day walking down Hollywood Blvd to see the Hollywood stars, Chinese Theatre and all of its beauty. My feet somehow made their way to Zara where I did some major shopping damage. It was only day one!

Day 2 // Universal Studios Hollywood was kind of small compared to the Universal Studios in Orlando. The lines were ridiculous long. We regretted not purchasing a front of the line passes. It would have been worth it. Our shuttle driver suggested we start from the back and work our way to the front as far as rides, and to go to the studio tour first before anything. It’s great advice for anyone not having a front of the line pass. The tour was great, especially King Kong. The 3D rides always blow me away. We only spent half a day at Universal Studios because we wanted to drive to Santa Monica. It has been my mom’s dream to visit the Santa Monica Pier. I kind of wish we had spent a whole day there. By the time we got there, it was chilly. We had dinner on the deck at some Mexican restaurant at the end of the pier which (Warning: major complaining) we received the worst service ever. Our waiter never stopped by our table. Apparently when I order an appetizer I have to inform him that I want it as an appetizer? Makes no sense. The food was horrible, no flavor and overpriced. We weren’t the only ones dissatisfied. The tables around us were sending back their plates and complaining.

Before heading back to the hotel, we stopped by Paramount Studios to pay our respects to Cory Monteith. There were flowers, photos, candles and signs for Glee’s Finn Hudson.

Day 3 // Disneyland, where dreams come true! It truly is the happiest place on earth. I felt like a little girl. The parade with the Disney princesses nearly brought tears of joy. Cheesy, I know but I am a huge Disney fan. The Mickey and the Magical Map show – amazing! I’ve been to Disneyworld in Orlando but Disneyland was ten times better. I don’t know if it was the nice cool weather or the fact that we were able to enjoy more shows, but I walked out of Disneyland with a huge smile on my face, not wanting to ever leave. I wanted keepsakes so I shopped, shopped and shopped. Disney sweater, scarf, shot glass, photos and everything! Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to go to Disney California Adventure. We had to choose between Disneyland or California Adventure. Reviews suggested Disneyland and I’m glad we went with that choice. The fireworks and the Fantasmic – wow! I probably will be on a Disneyland high for weeks. That’s how much fun I had. Although, I do wish we had gone to California Adventure to see the World of Color show. But it’s okay. Next time.

Day 4 //  It did not go as planned. We were hoping to wake up early to go to the first tour at Paramount Studios but we were exhausted from a full day at Disneyland. We thought, okay. Let’s go see the Hollywood sign from the Griffith Observatory and then shop at the Grove. Nope. Packing took us forever so we just went straight to the Grove where after just visiting two stores, we were quickly distracted and spent the remainder of our trip at the filming of EXTRA with Mario Lopez and Maria Menunos. It was a great experience though. We were able to be a part of the EXTRA audience. Those unplanned moments make the trip even more exciting and memorable! On our way out, we just had to buy a Sprinkles Cupcake.

It was a great trip with the family and boyfriend. The only thing I regret is not booking the trip to be a week long. Four days is just not enough time to see what California has to offer. I would’ve liked for us to go hiking to get a view of the Hollywood sign. Tour Paramount Studios. Enjoy the Farmer’s Market at The Grove (we only got a sneak peek of it.) Visit San Diego and San Francisco (Anybody watch Full House? I wanted to visit the Tanners!) And Comic Con was in San Diego! And the Dallas Cowboys training camp kicked off this past weekend in Oxnard. And James Franco was having a book signing today! We wanted to do the Star Line tour, too. And so much more!

Any must-do things in Los Angeles that I missed? I know there’s probably a lot more that should’ve been on my must-do list.

Hope everybody had a wonderful and eventful weekend!

5 Reasons Why I'm Not Fit For Zumba (Or Anything)

ONE // I am out of shape. Five minutes of any kind of work out is a lot for me.

TWO // I am incapable of showing excitement when working out, like this girl right here:

THREE // I am a Mexican who has no rhythm, even with Spanish music. I guess all those cumbias I danced in high school just wasn't enough.  Fail as a Mexican with rhythm. My hips cannot move.

FOUR // I have two left feet. Seriously, I think I do. It's frustrating. I can barely get two-stepping down. (Yes, I went from cumbia talk to two-stepping.)

FIVE // It takes my brain a while to catch on to the steps, and by the time I finally have the steps down, we're off to the next set of dance steps. I mean, come on - let me catch up!

All in all, it was fun but I think I'll stick to routine workouts or P90X. Ha, because we all know I work out so much! After noticing how exhausting a one hour Zumba workout was for me, I think it's time to take this working out deal seriously. It's time to commit. In the meantime, I'll slip into my comfy yoga pants and college t-shirts.

Do you prefer classes or a routine workout at the gym?

Let me know. I'd love to hear suggestions. I may just try them all! :)

Monday Link Ups

Happy Monday! I don't know why or how but today I woke up on the RIGHT side of the bed.  Remember how in my "Friday's Letters" blog post I was seeking strength and courage to overcome some recent struggles? I seriously woke up today with a positive attitude and a new confidence to tackle any challenge. I feel pretty good. And if you don't know yet, a couple of years ago I was actively involved in ACTS. Recently I feel like I've been getting these signs that it may possibly be time for Women's ACTS now. Before I felt like it wasn't my time yet. It's a huge step going from Teens and Young Adults to - dun, dun, dun. Women's ACTS. Or maybe I'll go to one more Young Adults one first before I decide to do Women's ACTS.

Anyone involved in ACTS? Any advice?

Weekend Shenanigans! The weekend flew by fast. The boyfriend and I spent our weekend with his friends. He wanted some time with the boys (and girlfriends) just like the good old days. It was nice. Good times, lots of laughter. We also finally made it a point to take Winston to get puppy grooming which, ugh. Where do I even start? We decided to take him to Petco this time to try it out and I was not happy with the service at all. $50 for a "trim" which really was nothing. He came out looking exactly the same, just detangled hair. They didn't even trim his nails! Trust me, I noticed right away when he jumped on me and I felt every scratch. Never again. We're sticking with Petsmart.

I did, however, have some great weekend buys. (1) New flats. Aldo had an online sale a while back that I could not pass up. I am in desperate need of some new shoes. I am loving the studs all over these flats. (2) New movie. Spring Breakers is finally out! I kept going back and forth on whether or not I wanted to buy it. Not because I didn't like it. I liked the movie. It was mainly because I am not one who likes to spend money on movies. I prefer spending my money on clothes. I caved and bought the movie thanks to my boyfriend who always thinks it's a good idea to buy a new movie. (3) New weekender bag. I've had an Amazon gift card from my birthday back in April for a good while. I was saving it for a new iPhone case for when I get a new iPhone (my 4S is slowly dying) but I saw this bag and it was a done deal. With all these spontaneous trips, I need a good size carry on bag.

And lastly,

Weekly Wishes Link Up with Melyssa from The Nectar Collective.

Last week: Failed at painting a canvas and going to the pool. I really wanted to succeed with this weekly wishes. I have been wanting to paint one for a while but I just never get to it. And the pool, well. Sunday seemed like the perfect day. My friend and I went to a tent sale that a cute little boutique was having. It was extremely hot. After 30 minutes of browsing through clothes racks, we decided to go have some delicious margaritas at La Gloria where, thanks to our luck, we were seated outside. We were dying from the heat. We decided we need to hit the pool after started to get cloudy. Just our luck. So, FAIL at both wishes.

This week: Be free of all worries. Vacation is just around the corner and the last thing I want is to be stressed and frustrated when I board that plane to California. I have been blessed with a free-spirited mind lately that I want to maintain that positive, carefree feeling and just enjoy the now. Short and simple, but it's true.

Friday's Letters

Dear Winston - You need need a grooming session as of last week. We are horrible parents who keep pushing back your grooming appointments. But this weekend we will take you to get all fresh and squeaky clean because Sunday you will be leaving us for a whole week. We'll be in California while you be enjoying time with your grandparents. I'm going to miss your sweet kisses. Dear work - You're killing me but it's okay because vacation is SEVEN days away now and I'll come back even more pumped and ready to tackle any new challenges, but until then...

Dear God - Please (continue to) give me strength. You have been so good to me with giving me countless signs that I will overcome every hurdle tossed my way. Whether it be through song or verse, I know YOU are by my side every step of the way.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go" Joshua 1:9

Dear California - I will be seeing your beauty next weekend and I cannot wait to dip my toes into Venice Beach.

Dear baby sis - Good luck with your PCAT next week. You've been studying your butt off and I knew you are one step closer to pharmacy school.

Dear Texas heat - I hate you so much.

I plan to have a chill weekend (with a drink or two here and there) and start packing, so my Back That Azz up jam is very chill. I'm feeling country. I'm obsessed with Eli Young Band's new song "Drunk Last Night" It's blaring in my car every morning on my way to work. (As if I got a little drunk the previous night but we all know post grad life is lame and that no longer exists.)

Weekly Wishes Link Up

It's Monday, and you know what that means?
No, not the Bachelorette. I'm over that show.  Just kidding, I'm watching it right now. I'm a sucker for reality television. It's entertaining.

But it also means: Weekly Wishes Link-Up!

Let's see how I did.

Last week’s wish: Catching up with friends.
It was great to catch up with a good friend/sorority sister. We’ve been busy with work and spending some time with our lovers after being gone in Vegas for vacation. Since Vegas we hadn’t had time to catch up to see how life is treating us since going back to reality after a nice vacation.

Original photo via Pinterest / Me Oh My Blog.

This week’s wish: Paint a picture and go to the pool.
I have a white canvas that has been sitting in my closet for months now. I have seen so many easy paintings on Pinterest that I feel could really add some color to my bedroom. I want to finally get to that this week/weekend. After adding some color to my bedroom, I need to work on getting some color on my SKIN! I though I got a pretty good tan in Vegas but apparently not. I need to lay out by the pool and enjoy the latest Cosmo magazine on a nice Saturday afternoon. The weather has been great. I almost went Sunday but I decided to go shopping. I had a Zara gift card from my birthday back in April which I had completely forgotten about. Isn’t that the best feeling? Finding a gift card in your wallet is like finding money in a pair of jeans. Lucky for me there was a sale going on this weekend at Zara so I found some great buys and still had money left over in my gift card! Check out my brand new scarf (which will be perfect for my trip to California next weekend.) and a perfume (I’m trying to expand my perfume collection.)

Weekend Shenanigans

Hope everybody had a safe 4th of July. I saw a lot of photos of beautiful fireworks and delicious fourth of July treats when browsing through my Bloglovin' newsfeed. Unfortunately I did not get to see fireworks (bummer, I know!) but I did get to enjoy fourth of July with my boyfriend and my family while enjoying some delicious barbecue. It was a very relaxing fourth of July, just what we needed. Nothing crazy.

As for the weekend, the boyfriend and I gave in to participating in Pub Run. We rushed to the nearest Target and Wal-mart to buy some items to put together a costumer/outfit. The theme this month of "Fourth of July"- duh! Pub Run is so much fun, I highly recommend everybody to give it a try. I love that each month there's a different theme. People get really creative with their costumes.

Pub Run tends to lead to lots of money spent on drinks and the costumes. (Okay, mainly the drinks. Our costumes were pretty inexpensive.) Saturday we were exhausted and pretty spent. We decided to take it easy and have a lazy Saturday. We picked up California Pizza Kitchen and went to the nearest Red Box to have a movie night. We had no idea there was a Paranormal Activity 4 movie, so we decided to give it a try. Well, I did. My boyfriend hates scary movies. I have a love-hate relationship movies. I love scary movies but I hate the suspense. I hate when you know something is about to pop out and scare you. But I like watching them. It's weird.

Hope everybody had a safe fourth of July weekend!

Fourth of July Outfit Inspiration

Are you ready for Fourth of July?

I'm ready to enjoy fourth of July with some hot dogs, barbecue and a nice cold drink, but you can't do that without a cute fourth of July outfit. I have been on Pinterest looking for some fourth of July outfit inspiration ideas. From patriotic scarves to shorts to comfortable button downs, the inspiration is flowing. I am seriously considering going to buy my fourth of July outfit tonight.

All photos in the collage are from Pinterest.

After hours spent on Pinterest, I was inspired to put together my own fourth of July outfit.

I want to be comfortable, so I went with a white and navy blue sweetheart dress paired with some red, blue and gold jewelry accessories. I'm into statement necklaces and wearing multiple bracelets right now, so these items worked out perfectly and go great with the fourth of July theme. As for shoes, you can never go wrong with Sperry's! And the bag was just a big BANG to finish off the fourth of July outfit.

 photo fourthofjuly_zps71550261.png

I cannot wait to go out and buy my fourth of July outfit and enjoy some fireworks!

What are your plans for fourth of July?
Do you have any fourth of July traditions or family gatherings?

Weekly Wishes + Bloglovin

Oh, Monday. You came too soon.
Lucky for us, 4th of July is this week which means HOLIDAY, off from work on Thursday.

Unfortunately, I've been feeling a little bit under the weather. I don't know if it's allergies or if I'm getting the cold. Whichever it is, it needs to stop because I'm feeling miserable. So, sorry if this post is scattered. My brain is foggy.

But it's Monday and I've been looking forward to Weekly Wishes!

Last week: My goal was to make time for myself. I feel like I kind of succeeded but not really. I wanted to succeed by actually going out to the mall and buying the small little items that I've been wanting to buy. Small little things. I wanted to paint. I wanted to go to yoga. What's my reason for not doing any of those things? My "me time" ended up being me getting all caught up on all my favorite shows that were stored in my DVR recordings. I mean, I'm talking about: Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Pretty Little Liars, The Client List, The Bachelorette, The Voice (yes, I'm that behind) - everything. So, I guess in reality I did succeed because I just wanted to be in my PJs and eat ice scream while I enjoyed television.

I also spent time with my family. I don't go to Mexico that often anymore. I literally only go once a year but this past weekend my cousin was getting engaged and she wanted the whole family there. (Yes, she know it was coming. It was planned for both families to come together for the proposal. Both parents talked and gave their blessing before the proposal happened.) I honestly did not feel like going only because I was exhausted but I dragged myself out of bed and into the car for the drive to Mexico. I am so glad I went. It was beautiful and she really appreciated my presence there. She didn't think I would make it and was so happy to see me. She's one of my closest cousin's and I would have never forgive myself had I missed that big moment in her life.

Congrats to my cousin!
June 7, 2014 - let the countdown begin!

This week's goal? Schedule a catch up date with friends. It's a short work week so there should be no excuse for hanging out with friends and catching up. I've been so wrapped up with work and getting back on my work grind since coming back from vacation that I realized, I need girl talk like now. A happy hour date with the girls will be a good time to catch up and see how we're all doing. We all have busy schedules and I'd love to get a couple of the girls together for a catch up date.
