Back To School Handbags

Happy Thursday!

In case you haven't heard, I had the pleasure of guest blogging over at Allie's blog, Call Me Sassafras. It's that time of the year - back to school shopping. Every girl needs a nice, new handbag for school. Head on over to her blog to read all about my Back To School handbag picks!

Late Weekend Recap

Labor Day Weekend is just days away. I can pretty much smell it, so it's probably a good idea to post my weekend recap before the next weekend sneaks up on me. I know what you're thinking. "On a Wednesday? It's kind of a little too late and we kind of don't care." But, whatevs. It was a weekend of discovering a delicious new sushi roll, enjoying a couple of drinks and spoiling myself with a new purse and perfume. It's been a tough few days so I decided to treat myself to something nice. And by something I mean splurging on myself because I can.

Photo bomb starts now...

Chaca Sushi Roll.

Some Texas beer that I don't remember the name of.

Sunday OOTD.

Selfie Sunday.
Brand new bag for grad school.
Hello, Chanel perfume.

Six Reasons Why I Know My Dog Is High Maintenance

1. He hates going for a walk. I’ve taken him out for a walk at the apartment dog park and he's pretty much dyiing within 5 seconds of being outside. He will not walk with me and I'll have to carry him back home like a baby. Otherwise, he'll drag his little paws.

2. He needs to the car A/C on full blast and facing him. With just 5 seconds of being in the car, he will literally jump onto the arm rest (is that what it's called?) between the driver's seat and passenger's seat so he's smack in the middle of the A/C. If I don't turn on the A/C full blast right away, he'll stare at me until I do. If it's a long car drive, he'll jump to the back seat and sit in the middle.

3. He needs to be the center of attention. Sometimes we'll be relaxing, watching a movie in the living room and he wants to play so he'll sit in front of the TV and bark at us. If he keep ignoring him, he'll jump on the couch and bark in our ears or grab a toy and toss it around in our faces until we play with him. He's a little brat, but he's cute.

4. He needs a big bed. Clearly he didn't like his small bed after he outgrew it. (He looked so cute in it when he was little!) He quickly tore up that bed as a hint to us that we need to buy him a new one, bigger than him.

5. He won't sleep in his bed. It defeats the purpose of buying him a big bed. I don't know why we even bother. He sleeps in the bed, next to my face on my shoulder. If I move, he'll move to be right next to my face again.

6. He looks good after a grooming session, but gets bad feedback. You know that dog that is barking at the world and won't sit still at Pet Smart during his grooming session? Yeah, that would be my dog. Pet Smart's grooming provides a report card and I promise you every single one of Winston's report cards says: "he's cute but he talks back" or "it took three people to groom him." I mean, does it really take three people to groom a 6 lb precious Yorkshire Terrier?

Oh, hey! It's Friday.

It's time for Friday Letters...

Dear First Week of Grad School,
I survived! I look forward to the next two years of sleepless nights, hours studying in the library and Starbucks coffee runs. The journey towards earning a master's degree starts now!

Dear running shoes,
We're starting to become buddies here. I like/hate it. I like it because I feel like I did something. I hate it because my legs feel like jello after just 30 minutes.

Dear Joe Francis from VH1's Couples Therapy,
Bro, you are low class. To throw water in a girl's face is just disrespectful. And then to runaway like a coward just blows my mind. I couldn't finish watching the show because I could not stand to hear his voice. Catelynn pretty much gave the perfect description of him.

Dear PLL,
I have a few questions - Will we ever find out who A is? What was up with the awkward 2 minutes of country line dancing? Why is Mr. Fitz so good looking? Why am I kind of cheering for this new guy Aria is dating? Please answer all these questions in the next episode. Thanks.

Dear bank account,
Where is all my money going?! No more lunch for me. I'm packing my lunch. It's getting a little expensive going out to eat during my lunch. I'm going to try and take my own lunch for the next two weeks to see how much money I save.

#backthatazzupfriday

Maybe it's because I didn't go on my Vegas trip two weekends go but I'm having Vegas withdrawals. Every time I hear this song, it makes me think of Vegas. I don't know why. So, here's to hoping this weekend is a good weekend.

So, you want to get to know me?

The lovely Heather from Honee Bee tagged me in this pretty neat game going around the blog world. It's the perfect way for your readers to get to know you a little better, aside from the basics like your name, where you're from, etc. Everybody say thanks to Heather for putting together some great questions!

1. What is your go to outfit?
Scarf, jeans and a plain solid tee. I'm a simple girl.

2. If you could go out to coffee with anyone, past or present, who would it be?
Tough question. I'm always willing to sit down and just talk to an old or new friend. You can really learn a lot from someone or that someone may just need someone to listen.

3. What is one dream for your future?
Be happy and be completely in love with life's blessings. As long as I am surrounded by the people I love, have a job I enjoy and have had the opportunity to travel, then I will be happy. :)

4. Where did you meet your boyfriend/fiance/husband?
Freshman year in college, he saw me in line in the cafeteria and just started talking to me. We've grown closer and closer ever since. The best relationships start from friendships, and that's exactly how ours began.

5. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes. I'm a sucker for romance.

6. What do you want to be when you "grow up"?
A veterinarian but then I saw the vet make my dog cry after giving him shots and I quickly changed my mind. It's not so pretty after all.

7. Do you have the names of your future kids picked out?
Maybe. #sorryimnotsorry

8. Why did you start blogging?

To share my experiences and to be creative. I wanted to pick up a hobby that defined me.

9. What is one food you could not live with out?

Lately, it's been sushi. I'm always in the mood to try a new sushi roll.

10. When was your first kiss?
Eighth grade at the movies with my very first boyfriend.

Tagging Allie, Stephanie and Mallory & Mark

Ten Questions:
1. If you won the lottery, what would you buy?
2. What is one place in the world you would like to visit?
3. Name something on your bucket list.
4. What's your favorite movie or book?
5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
6. PC or Mac?
7. Coffee or Energy Drinks?
8. Drive or fly to a destination?
9. Dog lover or cat lover?
10. If you could have a super power, what would it be?

Enjoy!

Shoes are a girl's best friend.

WEEKEND RECAP //

1. Macy's had a One Day Sale and it was just calling my name. I know, I know. I just bought shoes but these are heels. Two pair of heels and a pair of sandals (for my mom) for just under $50. Great deal!

2. Reorganized my closet to fit all my shoes. I'm running out of space quickly because I like to keep my shoes in their boxes. It keeps them safe and clean.

3. Sunday Brunch with a few of my sorority sisters. It was nice to get together and celebrate each other's recent successes.

4. Cuddle time with Winston. The apartment was cold, so Winston was hiding behind the pillows to keep warm. Sorry, Winston. I like it cold. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of cuddling.

WEEKLY WISHES //

Well, I'm a little late in the game here. It's late Tuesday and I'm barely posting my link up but it's been a while since I last participated in the Weekly Wishes Link Up with Melyssa from The Nectar Collective. And I didn't want to miss another week. I think my last weekly wish was to think of blog ideas, possibly revamp the blog and rethink the path I want to take. As you can see, I redesigned my blog, cleaned up the ABOUT section and the TRAVEL section, and added more sponsor ads to my SPONSOR page. If you'd like to sponsor with me, go check it out! :)

This week's weekly wish: Be thankful.
Simple as that. Despite the struggles, I need to remember to be thankful for the blessings I have been given and appreciate them. It's important to stop and take a moment to just enjoy life. Be thankful for life, for everything. As frustrated as I may get when things don't go my way, I know there's a reason to it. I know it's all part of His plan.

Fall Television Shows I’m Excited For

Time to stock up on some wine and get ready for Fall television shows! I don’t how or why but all of my favorite television shows air during the Fall. I have been anxiously awaiting the return of several of my favorite TV shows. I am about to have no social life with work, grad school and television. (No particular order. I have too many favorites. It would be difficult to rank them.)

Dancing With The Stars – premieres Monday, September 16

Every season I keep telling myself, no more. Usually because I’m never happy with who won but last year, DWTS gave me hope with Derek Hough and Kellie Pickler winning the shiny mirror ball trophy.

New Girl –premieres Tuesday, September 17

I don’t even have to say why I’m excited for this show. It’s just hilarious, I love it. The actors are funny. The show is funny. It’s just a show you can’t help but love.

The X Factor – premiers Wednesday, September 18

While I am not a fan of the new judges, I will continue to watch The X Factor because of Demi Lovato. There was a lot of talent last season. Some of my favorites included Carly Rose Sonenclar, Fifth Harmony, Emblem 3, Jennel Garcia, and more.

The Voice – premieres Monday, September 23

I’ve always been iffy about whether or not I like this singing competition show. I just couldn’t get myself to stick to watching it but last season I stuck to it. Okay, I lied. I stopped watching after Caroline Glaser was eliminated but then I picked it up again once I heard Danielle Bradbery was still in the competition. I absolutely loved her performance with Hunter Hayes. In fact, I loved every performance of her. And I just love Blake Shelton. That’s a big plus in my book for watching the show. I'm not even sure who the judges are this coming season or if they're changing.

Nashville – premieres Wednesday, September 25

I’ve literally only watched two episodes of this show. I have been meaning to have a lazy Saturday with Netflix to get caught up but I just can’t get to it. I hear it’s a good show. Any thoughts? Should I spend hours getting caught up or just forget about it?

Glee – premieres Thursday, September 19

I have been a Glee fan since day one, so I’m always excited for each season but now more than ever I am waiting for the return of Glee because of the passing of Cory Monteith. I’m glad the cast is returning and continuing to move forward with the show. It will be different. I’m curious to see how Ryan Murphy will write off Finn Hudson from the show. The tribute show will be a sad, sad episode.

Grey’s Anatomy – premieres Thursday, September 26

I have been a Grey’s Anatomy fan since my freshman year in college thanks to my sorority. When I was rushing, the recruitment events (to get to know the girls) were Grey’s Anatomy nights every week. I quickly became obsessed with the show and have been watching it ever since. So, 6 years? And now I’m hearing Sandra Oh is leaving the show so this is her last season!

The Walking Dead – premieres Sunday, October 13

Oh, The Walking Dead. I used to laugh at the zombie fanatics and think this show was lame. One night, the boyfriend and I had nothing to watch on TV so we decided to watch the first season on Netflix. For two weeks, we were locked up in the apartment and watched every single episode to get caught up. I mean, we had no lives during those two weeks. I’m talking – get out of work, pick up food and watch TWD until bedtime. “One more episode. Okay, after this one we’ll stop.” We even almost named our dog Carl instead of Winston because we thought Rick saying “CARRRLLLL” was just hilarious. The show is addicting.

There are so many other shows that I’ve either never watched and I’m behind on or just completely forgot about and now I’m extremely behind/lost, but I want to get caught up on. Nashville, The Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, Drop Dead Diva, Revenge, The Secret Life of An American Teenager, and The Lying Game (Is this show still airing?)

What shows are you looking forward to this Fall?

Exciting News!

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever." Psalm 106:1

Just a quick post to say that...

The big man upstairs has answered my prayers.

It has been a challenging road but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Be patient, for He has bigger plans. What are those plans?

I will be going to graduate school this Fall!

Pretty Little Liars Excited Jennifer Lawrence Excited
Awww Yeah Christina Aguilera

Pretty much defines my reaction when I found out.

I am nervous yet excited for this next chapter in my life. I know it will be challenging but I am ready to pursue a graduate degree. I am beyond blessed and grateful for this opportunity.

Graduate school, let's do this!

Weekend Recap

Happy Tuesday!

These past few days have been great thanks to plenty of time spent with the family. My cousin came into town and stayed with us for a week. I was very happy that he had an eventful stay with the family. He went to Warped Tour, Six Flags, the movies. Oh, the movies. Have you guys seen The Conjuring yet?

I was not aware that this movie included a doll. Small fact of the day: I have a fear of dolls. Porcelain dolls, life size dolls, scary dolls. I am so afraid of them that I didn't even keep my last doll from my quinceanera. I nearly walked out within the first 5 minutes of the movie. Luckily my sister was next to me telling me when to close my eyes. Aside from that, it was a great movie. It was scary! I have a love/hate relationship with scary movies. Can anybody else relate?

FRIDAY // Tax free weekend and I did some major damage, shoe shopping damage. There is not need to even explain, I'll just show you:

Thanks DSW and Nordstrom Rack. Three pair of shoes is kind of a lot but I couldn't pass them up. It's hard for me to find shoes that fit me because I wear such a small size. That's a valid excuse, right? Good enough for me.

Moving on with the weekend recap. Speaking of MOVING ON. Fifth Harmony was in town at La Cantera and performed. Unfortunately I couldn't make it. Work. But my sister and cousin were there shopping and she was nice enough to send me a video. I'll admit, I liked Fifth Harmony on The X Factor. They really improved with their singing and performing. Good job, Simon Cowell. You will now be extra rich with your two successful groups - One Direction and Fifth Harmony. And he still has Emblem 3 rising up.

SATURDAY // Quinceaneras (Sweet Sixteen parties) are no longer the same. The dresses changed. The dances changed. The crowd changed. The music changed! I mean, they were playing Adele and Rihanna. Because I'm sure a 14/15 year old is struggling with a break and belting nevermind I found someone like you, I wish nothing but the best for you. No, just no. My sister and I had a blast singing along, people watching and taking numerous selfies.

We were both sporting our nerd glasses for a sweet sixteen.

SUNDAY // It was a beautiful Sunday spent with my family BBQing. I rarely go to Mexico to visit so my grandma was extremely happy to see that I was starting to come around again. It's a hectic life but the more I'm starting to visit, the more I am realizing that it is important to make time make that weekend trip to see my family. Mexico is just so darn hot but I will cross that bridge and visit more often. Yearly wish for next week's Weekly Wishes Link Up?

Speaking of weekly wishes, I'm slacking bad but I am happy to say that I am running! I have made it off of that couch and started running. Five minutes it I quickly realized I was extremely out of shape. But there are several fun 5K runs coming up that I really want to participate in without dying. Here's to running!

How was everybody's weekend?

Pinterest Love + Tax Free Weekend

Browsing through Pinterest gives me the urge to go shop and play dress up. Wouldn't it be amazing if by simply pinning an image of your favorite outfit it would magically appear in your closet? Dreaming. Tax Free weekend starts tomorrow! Now, I paid my dues and worked in retail for 5 years so I know how awful it is to work in retail during tax free weekend. It sucks. But tomorrow I plan on being brave and facing the tax free shoppers. I am in need of some shoes!

Are you going to face the tax free crowd?
Do you go shopping during tax free weekend?
Do you have a plan when you go tax free shopping?

Give me strength.

Today I'm not doing the usual.
Today I am not doing linkups.
Today I am just going to write.
Today's post will be short.
What's going on?

I've been MIA lately because I have been overwhelmed by recent health issues. I have made a lifestyle change in hopes to get healthy sooner rather than much later. I am avoiding sugar. I am avoiding fast food. I am drinking organic apple cider vinegar with water and honey every day. I am starting to run every day. It's tough but I need to think of my health and start making some changes.

Sadly, I had to cancel this weekend's upcoming trip to Las Vegas with my super awesome spontaneous vacation crew. It was tough making that decision and telling them but it had to be done. Instead I will be going to Mexico to visit a doctor (and see some family). Praying I regain strength and some patience. It's time to live a HEALTHY lifestyle.

On a lighter note:
I installed Disquis to making replying to followers much easier!
What do you guys think? I'm excited to make good use of it.
& welcome to new followers! :)

I received great feedback on the Travel Essentials post that I am currently working on Must Have Travel Essentials for Guys - so, keep an eye out this week for that!
