Wedding Planning Essentials

Wedding Planner
Find the perfect wedding planner and organizer that works for you. For me, it was The Knot Ultimate Wedding Planner & Organizer. I’m the kind of person that likes lists. All kinds of lists, with timelines to make me feel like I’m actually making progress as I’m checking off items off our checklist.

Wedding Magazines

Now, at first, wedding magazines made me feel extremely overwhelmed and stressed. The amount of information and wedding themes is crazy but after my mom marked a million sticky notes on one wedding magazines with ideas, I became inspired. Wedding magazines have photos and stories from real weddings, so that’s become helpful.

Planner/Calendar

I cannot stress how important it is to keep a small planner/calendar with you in your purse to note all the appointments with wedding vendors. It helps with avoiding double-booking appointments with vendors and having to cancel and reschedule which will lead to even more wedding stress. Less stress, more fun.

Journal
Instead of writing all wedding ideas on post-it notes that will most likely get lost, I like to jot them down in a cute journal from Ashley Brooke Designs that way if I ever need to go back to something, it’s all in one place.

The Knot App

I kid you not, The Knot app is how I found my wedding dress. I searched based on the style, fitting, price range. You can’t do that on Pinterest. On Pinterest, you find a dress you love, click on the pin and it turns out its available states away. With the app, I was able to find where the dress was available in my city.

Photo
For me, I like keeping a photo of us as a reminder that in the end, it’s not about perfecting your dream wedding or mirroring the wedding pins on Pinterest or the wedding planning stress. It’s about you and your future hubby. It’s about starting a life together as one.

Happy wedding planning!

Life Lately: Celebrating 3 Months Engaged

It has been more than two months since I blogged and that is unacceptable. But, I will say this. I am totally okay with it because it has allowed me to enjoy engaged life to its fullest. It has been the most amazing experience I could ever imagine. From sharing our proposal story to celebrating our engagement with family and friends to popping the question to my bridal party, it has been quite the journey and I want to share what we've been up to since I last blogged. (By the way, the last time I blogged was The Bachelor's finale and the big twist and now the new season of The Bachelorette just started this week and yes, I am just as hooked to the show as I was two months ago.)

say yes to the dress

Wedding Planning

Joseph and I had our hearts set on getting married on our anniversary month so we set the date to be the following February, giving us exactly 12 months to plan our special day. We started off planning with the idea that we wanted something big and grand, but after touring a small venue site, we decided we wanted to keep it small and intimate to make it even more meaningful to us. We want to celebrate our day with close family and friends in an intimate setting. As soon as we booked our venue, everything else started to fall into place. We booked our venue, church, photographer and videographer. I have also already said yes to the dress! I am in love with my dress. It's simple, comfortable, and perfectly reflects my style. I will admit, I am a little sad the wedding dress shopping experience has come to an end. It was so much fun trying on all these dresses! And, I popped the question to my bridal party.

Graduate School

When we set the date for our wedding, it didn't occur to me that it would be weeks before comp exams would be due since I planned on graduating next May 2016. There is no way I am going to be finishing up wedding planning, get married and enjoy our honeymoon while completing my comp exams and graduating. I decided to push graduating to a semester earlier, this coming December 2015. It's going to be a tough 6 months but that's what marriage is about. Meeting halfway and going the extra mile to make sure you have a good life together. Making adjustments to your life plans and compromising. I want to marry my best friend and enjoy our honeymoon with my master's degree under my belt already.

ACM Awards 50

Social Life

Somehow I managed to squeeze in some social outings into my life in the midst of wedding planning, work and school. The biggest event being the 50th Academy of Country Music Awards. I have mixed feelings about it. It was fun but very unorganized, paid a fortune for floor/GA seats with the idea that we would be by the stage (first come, first serve) but no. We were far from the stage. The Party For A Cause Concert was delayed by 3.5 hours due to the weather. They made it seem like it was cancelled so we left. People we met said the one in Vegas was much better and much more organized. But, about two weeks later, I got to enjoy going to a Kacey Musgraves concert which was amazing!

That's what has been going on in my life lately, in summary. I will be spending Memorial Day weekend in Phoenix/Sedona and cannot wait to share pictures from that trip! Joseph and I will finally get a chance to get away and relax, drink some wine and have a good time with my pledge sister and her fiance. I'll be catching up on some of my favorite bloggers' lives and scrolling through my Bloglovin' newsfeed and browsing Pinterest for some wedding inspiration/

The Engaged Life: 2 Weeks

Yesterday it was two weeks since he popped the questions, “Will you marry me?” Since then, I have been on cloud nine and praying that this engagement high continues for as long as possible. In the past two weeks, we have:

- learned to get used to saying fiancé and fiancée instead of boyfriend and girlfriend
- spent Valentine’s day weekend at the cabins with his family
- organized a dinner at my parent’s house for both our parents to socialize
- started wedding planning
- signed him up for confirmation classes (better late than never)
- each spent quality time family

And, of course, we have enjoyed spending time with each other. It’s been truly a blessing. It feels amazing being engaged and planning the rest of your life with the one you love. We have learned even more about each other and continue to grow as we start this new chapter in our lives. We bought these cute little books from Barnes and Noble titled "Do you know your groom?" and "Do you know your bride?" which has been fun answering. And, of course, I finally bought a wedding planner & organizer. I have been jotting down notes on post-it notes and then losing them, so this was much needed. Other than that, I've been spending week nights pinning away to get some wedding inspiration. If you know of any wedding blogs or recently engaged bloggers, tell me! I need to follow along their journey for wedding inspiration.

Proposal Story

If you follow me on Instagram, you will know by now that February 10, 2015 wasn't just our six year anniversary but also the day Joseph proposed to me. While it was no surprise that we were planning on taking our relationship to the next step, because we had talked about it for a while already, I was still surprised. I never in a million years would have thought that he would be proposing to me on campus, where we first met six years ago.

With it being our anniversary, the work day went by extra slow because I was anxious to celebrate with him after work. As 5 p.m. got closer and closer, I still had no idea what he had planned for us and I hadn't heard from him all day. 15 minutes til, two of my coworkers kept me a little late after work to help them with a few things. My boss then called one of my coworkers asking if anybody was left in the office to help her rescue a stray dog that was in front of the school. (That was their way of tricking me.) We grab our things and make our way downstairs to the front of the school and as soon as I open the giant wooden doors of school, I see my family waiting at the fountain and my first reaction is, "Oh my God." Right then and there, I knew.

My sister took my bag and walked me to this beautiful gazebo that is on campus, beautifully decorated. (Thanks to my mom, sister and his little brother.) As soon as I saw him, I practically power walked my way to him, hoping I wouldn't trip, met his little brother halfway and then continued my way to him. After that, it was all a blur. It happened so fast. John Legend's "Ordinary People" instrumental was playing. He gave me his speech (that I don't remember because I was too busy crying/smiling/shocked) and before he got down on one knee, he showed me the ring that was on a red rose inside a glass case like in Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

I am beyond blessed to have such a loving family, friends, and coworkers. I cannot wait to start planning the big wedding. I will most likely be pinning wedding pins all weekend long on Pinterest. And of course, happy six year anniversary to my FIANCE! By far the best anniversary present. :) And a huge thanks to my coworkers and sister for taking a million photos of this special day.

2014 Favorites

JANUARY

Yes, Cosmopolitan magazine liked my Instagram photo of my deliciously looking avocado & egg breakfast toast and I kind of freaked out a little. If you’re a fan of avocado, I recommend you try this.

FEBRUARY
I’m obsessed with coffee mugs, especially with the ones I pick up at different travel destinations, but these are perfect for a little “pick me up” when working long hours at the office.

Because celebrating the big five year anniversary was a pretty big deal. I’m excited to celebrate six years with this boy in less than a month!

MARCH

I checked off New Orleans off my travel list. It was a short and quick trip, but definitely one to remember. I discovered Bourbon St., the French Quarter and Jackson Squared, enjoyed beignets and NOLA food.
It was one of my first outfit posts and my attempt at being a “fashion blogger.” It’s basically a how-to build an outfit from your own closet and your sister’s closet.

APRIL

I have been looking for the perfect night skincare. I have acne prone skin and have struggled with cystic acne for a little over a year now. My skincare routine has changed since last April though, but the Clarisonic and Epiduo gel are still a huge part of my routine.

Fiesta is my favorite time of the year, and the best way to kick off Fiesta is Homecoming Weekend at my alma mater. I may or may not be counting down already for this year’s Baby Bake weekend.

MAY
This Vegas trip made me realize that it’s time to take a break from visiting Vegas twice a year. I am too old for that now. I had to take numerous naps, only went out one night, and was exhausted from all the walking; shopping all over the Vegas strip. But, it was fun and it was for my sister’s 21st birthday.

Another favorite because somehow I managed to make a small closet organized. It’s not easy fitting in all these clothes in a tiny closet, but I made it work. Take that, large, beautiful, extravagant Pinterest closets!

JUNE

A popular post and one of my all-time favorites would have to be this one. Pinterest makes life ten times more difficult. From home décor to wedding planning to DIY projects, Pinterest makes decision-making hard.

Yes, another Pinterest meal that includes avocado. It’s a quick and easy meal to prepare for work.

JULY

July had so many favorites. I discovered detox water and became obsessed with it. My boyfriend and I attended our first ever John Legend concert after being a fan of his for years and years, and wow! The best concert experience ever. His show was so good; we decided to see him again at the rodeo next month.

AUGUST

I am a lifestyle blogger who likes to occasionally share outfits of the day. Occasionally. Especially when it’s a great H&M find.

Weekend FindsAnd when I’m too lazy to pose for outfit of the day shots (aka, forget to take a photo) I like to just share my weekend shopping finds.

SEPTEMBER

September was another month full of favorites. Future planning has me obsessed with home décor, Fall attire is my favorite, including scarves, and finding things to do on your days off is always nice.

OCTOBER

Fall is my favorite season for two reasons: chunky sweaters and cute fall dates.

This particular “Life Lately” post was a favorite because it was filled with so many exciting events. I celebrated starting a new job, spent the weekend at my boyfriend’s hometown for his cousin’s wedding, and went to a Broadway show, Beauty and the Beast.

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER

November and December were boring months, mainly because I usually step away from blogland to: (a) focus on finals, (b) enjoy the holidays and (c) refocus. I only had one favorite post in both months, and that was my list of books to read over the holidays, and in life. I’m always adding to this list.

Friday Favorites

No. 1 | Disney Sketch Dooney & Burke Handbag
I cannot even begin to tell you guys how obsessed I am with this handbag. I first laid eyes on this beauty in one of Alexandrea Garza's videos on her YouTube channel and it screamed my name. When we were at Disney World for New Year's Eve, my boyfriend searched high and low for this handbag but apparently it's a popular print because it was sold out everywhere, including Downtown Disney. Well, as you can tell from my latest Instagram photo, the search is over. He ordered it online and had it shipped to my house.

No. 2 | DIY Ideas
I don't usually like to even bother looking at DIY project ideas because I know I don't make time to make an effort to even try a DIY, but this one seemed doable and my boyfriend and I have quite a collection of photo booth photo strips.

No. 3 | Healthy Habits
Whoever created this and pinned it all over Pinterest is a genius. They're little things but perfect reminders to keep in mind. I'm adding this to my new year resolutions list

No. 4 | Illustrations
I have been on the lookout for cute illustrations to put at my work desk. If you have any recommendations for Etsy shops with cute illustrations, let me know!

No. 5 | Temptation To Chop Off My Hair
I don't know how this would be a Friday Favorite but I felt the need to share that lately I have been looking into different hair styles for short hair because I'm tempted to chopped it off, but I know I'll probably regret it with having two weddings to attend this year and weddings usually require long hair for gorgeous hair dos.

No. 6 | Home Decor
Yes, I have included home decor in many of my previous Friday Favorite posts and probably even had a whole post dedicated to home decor, but with all this apartment hunting, I'm getting all these home decor inspiration ideas that it's pretty overwhelming.

2015 New Year Resolutions

I wasn't going to set new year resolutions because, let's be honest, they are quickly forgotten one month into the year. But I enjoyed making time to read over the Christmas break. I want to make it a habit to pick up a book more often and just immerse myself into someone's life. As soon as I jotted down that one single new year resolution I thought, mind as well make a list of possible resolutions, one week into the new year. Most are realistic and I think I could keep up, others (get active, blog redesign, volunteer and travel on a budget) will be hard. When I travel, I like to splurge and spend money like I have an endless amount of money but then come back home to a nearly empty bank account.

On a different note: I've been struggling trying to figure out what direction I want to take with this blog. It's starting to feel like a chore more than an enjoyment. I've enjoyed disconnecting for the past month or so to focus on spending time with family, friends and my boyfriend, focusing on school and work, and just making time for myself. I don't want to completely step away from this blog but you may see less posts until I figure out what I want to do and become organized with this blog.

What are your new year resolutions?

NYE Week at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Disneyworld

Happy New Year! I am confident 2015 will be a great year and I can't wait to get this year started already. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know by now that I spent the past two weeks of Christmas break traveling. We went on a family (plus boyfriend) road trip to Orlando, Florida. We rented a car and left the day after Christmas. We stopped in New Orleans the first night and to visit Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, the French Quarter and enjoy some beignets at Cafe du Monde.

Once in Orlando, we spent three days at Universal Studios' Wizarding World of Harry Potter. If you're a big Harry Potter fan and have yet to go, I suggest you do so immediately because walking through Hogsmeade and the newest addition, Diagon Alley, is like being in the movies. Because we went during a peek time, right during the holidays, the lines were long and it was crowded. Unfortunately we were there when it was raining.

And then my favorite part: Disney World. We spent New Year's Eve at the happiest place on Earth. We didn't get to ride on that many rides or see much of Magic Kingdom because we wanted to get a good spot in front of Cinderella's Castle for the NYE fireworks show which I don't regret getting a spot so early on since we were able to see a lot of the shows, and the final show, the midnight countdown show, was just incredible. Words cannot describe the magical experience of ringing in the new year at Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

I'm already planning a trip back to Disney World. There was so much more left to do.

How were your holidays? Hope everybody enjoyed their holidays and spent time with loved ones!
